Baby Hat in Eyelet Mock Cable Rib

Knit with #5 dpns and TLC Baby Sport, it should fit a newborn.
Cast on 70 sts (16-18-18-18)and work 2 1/2" in k1p1 rib.
Move sts to (15-20-15-20) this pattern is a multiple of 5.

Rnds1-2 *k3, p2*
Rnd3 *sl1, k2, psso, p2*
Rnd4 *k1, yo, k1, p2*

Knit in pattern until hat measures at least 5 1/2" from the beginning. Stop after round 3, decreases begin with the next round. Shift your stitches so each needle begins with 2 purl stitches.

Rnd1 *p2, k2*
Rnd2 *p1, k2tog, k1*
Rnd3 *k2tog, k1*
Rnd4 *k2tog, k2*
Rnd5 *k2tog*

Finish ends.

Alternate beginning: I began with 72 sts (16-20-16-20) and k2p2 rib for 2 1/2". On the first round of the pattern, I decreased 1 stitch on my 1st and 3rd needles and ended with (15-20-15-20). I worked 5 complete repeats of the pattern, and 3 rounds more, then started my decreases.

I love the color as well as the pattern. Mock cable is a fun one to do. It is on my list of caps for preemies.

My question:
The instructions read k1 pl, the picture looks like k2,p2.

Now I could very well be wrong, and if so, I do apologize.

You are correct. You can do either k1p1 rib or k2p2, whichever you prefer. I've done it both ways.
